Access to Law School Opportunity (ALSO) Program

Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School is pleased to introduce the Access to Law School (ALSO) program. ALSO is designed to allow participants an opportunity to demonstrate that they have the aptitude and the necessary skills sets to succeed in law school. A participant’s performance in the program will be considered with the balance of his or her application for the purpose of making an admissions decision. Admissions decisions at the conclusion of the ALSO program are final and non-appealable. Additionally, participants will not have access to their exams, nor have the opportunity to review their performance.

The Program

The ALSO program will commence on June 11, 2018 and end on June 28, 2018. Classes will meet at 6:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. The program consists of law school classes, class-related assignments, and assessment exercises. ALSO program courses do not earn any academic credit, nor will grades received count toward a law school grade point average at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School or elsewhere. The program is strictly an evaluative tool to be used in the admissions process.

Past participants in the program have said that the program was useful for establishing contact with other students as well as learning about the Law School community.

Tuition and Seat Deposit

The tuition for attending the program is $600. All course materials will be supplied as part of the tuition. If you are ultimately admitted, you will be given a $300 credit toward your J.D. seat deposit for securing a seat in the 2018 class. To reserve your seat in the ALSO program, a $300 non-refundable seat deposit must be received by May 1, 2018. The total amount of your ALSO seat deposit will be credit to your account and applied toward your ALSO tuition. If you submit the required deposit and subsequently decide not to attend, your ALSO seat deposit is non-refundable. Financial aid is not available for the ALSO program. Students who are accepted to the Law School may apply for financial aid in the form of loans but scholarships will not be available nor awarded to students admitted to the Law School.

The final tuition payment is due June 1, 2018.

Housing and Transportation

The tuition for attending the ALSO program does not include housing. Participants of the program are responsible for securing housing on their own as the Law School does not have on-campus
accommodations. For more information on available housing options, please click here.

Parking is available at the Law School’s attached parking deck located off of 18th Street. Please complete the ALSO parking application and return a copy of the same to the Bursar’s Office. The Law School is also accessible by MARTA and located off of the Arts Center Station stop.

First Week Attrition

If you begin the program and decide not to continue before attending all of the classes in the first week, you will be reimbursed $450. Written notification of your withdrawal must be received by the Admission Office no later than 5:00 p.m. on June 14, 2018 in order to be eligible for the reimbursement. Electronic notification to admissions@eagleeyes.johnmarshall.edu will suffice.

Preparation for ALSO

The goal of the ALSO program is to evaluate your skill sets in a simulated law school experience. Given the evaluative nature and objective of the program, professors will focus on the necessary skills of critical reading, writing, and analysis. ALSO students will be asked to write in-class as well as read cases and related materials for legal analysis. While there are not any materials for you to review or study at this time, we encourage you to rest and become comfortable with the process of close and careful reading. For this, you may wish to read a newspaper article or novel and think about what the text means and what the author tried to convey.

Schedules and other logistics will be provided closer to the start of the ALSO program. Please complete the payment form below (select “ALSO Deposit” from the drop-down) and submit the non-refundable $300 seat deposit if you would like to accept our invitation to participate in the ALSO Program.*

Your submission of this form is an acknowledgement that you understand and accept the terms of the ALSO program.
